In China, the cooking method of sticking pork on a large skewer and grilling it over an open flame is called char siu (roasted pork), and the product made by that cooking method is called char siu roasted meat. In Japan, steamed pork and pork wrapped with thread are also collectively called char siu, and the char siu on top of rice is generally called char siu rice bowl.
