Summer festivals such as Bon dances and fireworks displays are an essential part of summer fun. It is great that people can enjoy the various stalls and spectacles in different ways. I feel that holding uchiwa (Japanese fans), which help protect against the heat and raise one’s spirits with the character for “festival,” and wearing happi coats together with everyone else creates a sense of unity and makes the festivals more exciting.
